Mac OS 8 Developer Documentation

About This Site
Welcome to the Apple Technical Publications Hardware Developer Documentation Web site, where you'll find documentation that describes Macintosh computer hardware and software technologies.

The documentation found at this site is written specifically to support development of Mac-compatible hardware and software products. The documentation is also useful to anyone interested in learning more about specific Macintosh computer models and supported device interface technologies.

This site contains three main pages:

  • Current Hardware Products, where you can find documentation covering Macintosh products that have been recently introduced.
  • All Hardware Products, where all of the hardware and devices documentation is listed.
  • Device Managers and Drivers, where you can find reference documentation that describes application programing interfaces (APIs) for Mac OS device managers and drivers.

Most of the documents on this site are hardware Developer Notes, which provide detailed hardware and software information for each Macintosh model and for Apple's LaserWriter printers, scanners, and video display products. Developer Notes are made available whenever new Macintosh models or imaging products are introduced.

The (HTML) links take you to additional information you can view with your browser. Other links attempt to download either a Portable Document Format (PDF) file or a compressed version of the listed document. Not all of the links include (PDF), (HTML), or (FTP) indicators, so be prepared to cancel a download if that is not what you expect.

We'd like to hear your comments and suggestions about the documentation; please send us your feedback.
